Reflections

How did your time abroad impact your academic, career, and/or personal goals?

Student 1:

"It made me more interested in working outside of the US. Also, seeing and learning about Denmark’s welfare system in my classes made me more motivated to help bring about changes in the US which improve all Americans' quality of life"

Student 2:

"Particularly in the context of Swedish culture, there is a term 'lagom,' which essentially means 'not too little or not too much.' This concept is extremely applicable, especially in terms of maintaining a healthy work-life balance so I find that it is something I will keep with me after my time in Sweden"

Student 3:

"Some of the ways that being abroad impacted my academics was having a good focus on my second major which is Chinese and taking mostly related classes in the humanities department was a bit different than what I was used to when I was only taking mainly science classes at Macalester. While being abroad it encouraged me to continue studying Chinese even after being abroad such as taking classes during the summer and being proactive in doing studying on my own. In addition, being abroad also helped me to put more things into perspective such as my desire to travel more in the future and visit new places"
